Vinson standardizes oil & gas HMI deployments with Beijer Electronics

Vinson develops solutions for the upstream oil and gas industry, supporting well production applications that require reliable monitoring and an easy operator experience. Their application is designed to provide a standardized platform across installations while giving customers the flexibility to configure their systems without building HMI projects from scratch. 

To support these applications, Vinson uses Beijer Electronics X2 Extreme HMIs in 7, 12, and 15-inch sizes along with the iX Developer software. 

The challenge 

Vinson's goal was to develop a standardized solution that could be deployed consistently across a variety of upstream oil and gas applications. They knew that by providing a ready-to-use application, they could simplify implementation while giving customers a consistent user experience.

In their search for a solution, they explained that other hardware platforms struggled with memory limitations and database constraints. This made it difficult to support growing applications.

So, they set out to deliver a solution that could be deployed out of the box, with options for customers to add custom functionality as needed - without having to design their own interfaces from scratch. 

Building a standardized solution 

Built on Beijer Electronics X2 Extreme HMIs, Vinson has simplified HMI deployment by eliminating much of the configuration work traditionally required in the field.

Rather than programming operator screens from scratch, customers can configure their systems using predefined screens or easily add new ones with drag-and-drop functionality. As a result, deployments are faster and more consistent across a wide range of complex oil and gas applications.

This solution currently supports 12 HMIs, with small sites utilizing one or two HMIs and larger sites deploying as many as six at a time. 

Standardized foundation, flexible displays 

At the heart of the solution is ProductionManager EDGE™, a standardized software application designed for the operational control and fiscal management of upstream oil and gas well pads and associated processing facilities.

Operators can easily navigate between dedicated Home, Tank, Well, Well Optimization, Well Test, and Haul screens without building individual HMI projects from scratch. Designed to support the full production lifecycle, from free-flowing wells to artificial lift and tertiary/enhanced oil recovery (EOR), ProductionManager EDGE™ provides a configurable, ready-to-deploy solution that maintains a consistent operator experience across installations.

For customers with unique needs, the platform supports custom displays that can be added alongside the standard application using drag-and-drop tools, providing flexibility without sacrificing the consistency of the overall operator experience.

The switch to Beijer has reduced training requirements while making customer support a better, faster, and easier experience. Rather than maintaining a long list of custom HMI projects, teams can support a single, consistent application across every deployment.

With many installations now monitored remotely, operators only need to travel to the field when maintenance or operational needs arise, further simplifying day-to-day operations.

Looking ahead

As customer requirements continue to evolve, Vinson is preparing to migrate its application from the X2 Extreme platform to the X3 series while expanding its software capabilities with container-based functionality, web-based visualization, remote cloud technologies, and Emerson Edge integration to continue supporting modern oil and gas operations.
