M937x PIO and Non-volatile memory adjustments! (Retain)

Note! From firmware FW rev 3.002 update (20230111) the non-volatile memory of M9372 and M9373 is changed from 32 to 12KB of which Retain and Persistent Retain memory has been changed from 16 to 6KB each.

CODESYS Trace feature for PIO modules

The 'Trace' function is only supported in the PIO modells that inlcude the visualization. 

That include PIO models: GN-9xx3 (for example GN-9373) and GL-9973/75, GL-9981-C-x, M9xx3 and ML9973/75 series.

Always add a power module (M7001/7002) after the network adapter

​The configuration of M-series network adapters and M-PIO always require to add a power module (M7001/7002) directly after the network adapter, then add the rest of the IO modules.

Note! The same configuration need to be made in the programming tool like example from CODESYS / BCS Tools. See attached file.

BCS Tools - SFC errors at compile

​Affected versions:
3.50, 3.51, 3.52
Will be solved in 3.60

Affected devices:
All devices in BCS Tools with <SP17 runtime.
BoX2 SC all variants
X2 control all variants
GL-99xx all variants
GN-93xx all variants

The reason for this is due to compatible issue between the runtime version implemented in the device and the version of the SFC library.

Workaround
Change the version in use to an older version according to the attached pictures.

Not possible to add features to the CODESYS license of standard PIO

​For the standard Programmable IO of type GN-937x, GL-997x or M937x, like the GL-9972, it's NOT possible to add any additional features like protocols etc. This is because these standard PIO modules uses a fixed license setup. 

Only the Embedded Programmable I/O of GL-998x type, like the model GL-9981-C-1 that support CODESYS Application-Based Licenses, can change and add features.

G-Series Programmable IO - Task priority setting

​The PIO models in GN-, GL-, ML-,and M-series does not support the task priority setting in CODESYS/BCS Tools.

Customers using older versions of the device description files will have the possibility to change the priority for the task but there is no actual function for it when running the application.

At the time of writing, 2023-06-16, the current published device description files for GN-, GL-, ML- and M-series will only have one priority available.

The only exception is the GL-998x (Raspberry Pi) which supports 0..31

Change of retain area size Programmable IO

Common noise filter NBH-06-432-D to FnIO S- and M-series (for DNV certificate)

To fullfil DNV certificate standard, the common noise filter 'NBH-06-432-D' from Cosel need to installed between the power supply and the remote IO. The purpose of this is to suppress conductive emission of FnIO Series. If you use other noise filters, our DNV certificate will be ineffective. See attached datasheet of the specification of the filter and example how to connect this noise filter to the FnIO S-series, principle is the same for M-series.

​The serieal number of S-series is 11 digits, G- and M-series is based on 12 digits.
Note, for G- and M-series the last four digits xxxx.

Shock resistance of G- and M-series (IEC 60068-2-27)

According to IEC 60068-2-27 (shock operating) standard the general shock resistance is 15G for all G- and M-series modules.

Conversion guide for alternative products between S-series remote IO to G- or M-series

​Use this PDF to chose a corresponding product. In some cases there are several alternatives that may need deeper investigating but in general:
- S- and G- (or M-) series modules cannot be mixed since they are mechanically different, however it is perfectly possible to have connect a S-series and G-series network adapter to the same network.
- The G-series is great all-purpose family that will work in most cases although not marine applications.
- The M-series is adapted for demanding applications and environments. It offers hot-swap and redundancy and is has a marine certifications.
